New TDA Classroom Environment Issues
Q: What is Angel and How do I access it?
A: Angel is the new "browser-based" classroom enviroment for TDA. You need to be using Mozilla to work in it, and you need to use a new username and password to get into it. Access to the new Angel site can be found here: http://angel.tdalearn.org. If you don't have the Mozilla browser software installed, or can't get into the new Angel environment with your current username and password, you should contact the HelpDesk for assitance in getting setup at 866-832-0377. (8/29/05)Q: I don't really understand how to use Angel, where do I start?
A: Although Angel is being covered in the Orientations, returning students who have not gone through orientations may have some questions about using Angel. This linked pdf document (HelpAngelOnly.pdf 36kb) will give you some ideas on how to get into it, and how to use it. (8/29/05)Q: What is my username and password?
A: Your username and password are new for this year, and were sent to you via postal mail recently. Your username is a new 15 character long combination of your firstname, middle initial, and last name. Your password is also new for this year. If you have lost your username and password information, contact the TDA Help Desk at 866-832-0377. Once you get inside of the Angel TDA Classroom Environment, your identity will be your full name. (8/29/05)Q: How do I use email inside of Angel?
A: Email inside of the new Angel environment is restricted to communications between you and your teacher in each of your classes. This is called course mail. There is no emailing between students in Angel. As in the past, there is no emailing out to external internet mail addresses and there is no way to receive emails from the outside in Angel. State guidelines require us to use this "gated" email environment.(8/29/05)Q: What is the email address of my teacher?
A: Inside of each of your classes, when you send coursemail, you will be sending to "All Faculty", which will send to the teachers of your class. In some classes, there is also a form for mailing specific teachers, and in those cases, choose the teacher you want to email from the list. (8/29/05)
Web Interface Issues
Q: Sometimes when entering the new TDA Classroom Environment with my web browser, I get an error message or the page does not load properly. How can I get in?
A: If you encounter an error when entering with a web browser, click on the "Stop" button at the top of the browser window, and then hold down the "Option" key on your keyboard and click on the "Refresh" or "Reload" button at the top of the browser window. This should reload the page properly. (8/29/05)
Roadrunner & DSL Issues
Q: What do I need to do if I get Roadrunner or DSL instead of the modem dialup?
A: First - When you get the "installation CD" for the service, DO NOT INSTALL EXPLORER FROM THE CD!!! It installs an old version of Explorer over top of the version you have on your iMac - don't install this old version of Explorer off of the Installer CD from the Service. Don't let the service technician from the ISP service install Explorer on your system either! (10/10/01)Q: I need to set up the computer for cable modem service. What do I need to do?
A: Contact your local cable ISP service provider and make an appointment to have them setup the computer. Also notify the TDA Helpdesk so they can unlock the TCP/IP settings for the Technician when they arrive to set up the computer. (10/1/01)Q: The cable ISP service provider has sent a technician, but the TCP/IP controls are locked?
A: You will need to have them call the TDA HelpDesk at 866-832-0377, so we can give them access to that area. It is one of the areas that are locked for the protection of the computer. (10/1/01)
ISP & Dialup Issues
Q: The phone number I'm dialing for the ISP is a long distance number, but it's the one that TDA gave me to use - should I use it?
A:TDA provides you with an internet dialup number, and has worked hard with our internet service providers to get you a local number for your internet dialup. But changes to phone exchanges around the state happen regularly and we can't always be sure your dialup number is a local call.It is your responsibility to make sure that the number you are dialing is local. TDA will not reimburse you for dialup calls which are long distance or local toll calls. Call your local phone company to verify that your dialup number is a local call. If you find that your number is not local, contact your ISP and TDA to get a local number. (8/29/02)
Q: I don't have an Earthlink account, but a Brightnet account. Is that a problem?
A: No, Earthlink does not cover all areas in Ohio, so TDA uses several other ISP's to provide Internet service to fill in the gaps. Once you are connected to the Internet, you will be able to get to the TDA website, regardless of what ISP you use. (10/1/02)Q: I can't get my Earthlink account to work.
A: Make sure you have @earthlink.net AFTER your username. (10/1/01)Q: I get a message "authentication failed" when I try to connect.
A: Usernames and passwords are case sensitive and must be typed exactly. Make sure you are using lower case letters for both username and password. (10/1/01)Q: When the computer dials to connect, I get an error stating the number you dialed is incorrect?
A: Make certain the number given is entered in correctly. Some areas require the area code to be used as well. Also, be sure the number your computer is dialing is a local number. (10/1/01)
